Had 2-1/2 day charters today...Started at 7:30 this am and had Wayne Morris and his Wife Sue in From Albany NY. They wanted to target larger fish so they thru Jerkbaits most of the am. Sue was quiet good with Jerkbait and ended up with several 18" fish right off the bat! They ended up catcbing 36 smallies.

Leo Watrin and his 12 year old son Fished in the afternoon and they ended up with 38 smallies and 1 walleye. One of the smallies going 19-3/4" caught by Jr! he even got to drive the boat!

Had to laugh today as I think all of the trout from the creeks are in the river! Joe and Paul Lesko came fishing today. We caught 4 trout today including a slammer, hooked jawed Brookie at 19"caught by Joe. We also caught 1 walleye, 1 pike and had two seperate musky encounters...one which got hooked but didnt make it in the boat....Oh yah..we also caught pile of smallies today up to 18-3/4"

Most of the fish came on jerkbaits and we even got into a pretty good Spinnerbait bite at the end of the day.

April 19, 2009, 02:49 PM by Greg Third Week in April

The water temperature has risen into the low 50's ,which as anticipated has triggered a great Jerkbait bite. We have been targeting larger fish the past 3 days and doing well on Lucky Craft Pointers. We have managed a number of fish in the 19" range and one up to 20-1/4" plus many in the 18"range.

Saturdays sunny warm temperatures even triggered the first spinnerbait bite of the year.

John Allen and his friend Bill came up fishing today. Weather was COLD.& WINDY...it started out cloudy and finished with a blue bird sky. Water temp at 46 and Stained.

It was tough fishing today..with the post cold front and contending with the 20-25mph wind that was howling most of the afternoon. Fish were wildly scattered again today with one here and one there.
They finished with 17 fish including one Pig of an 18-3/4" that had some nice shoulders. Most of the fish were of great quality. Including 5 in the 17" inch range.

Charlie Archer and His Grandson Ryan came up from Maryland on a 1/2 day charter.

Ryan did pretty well for never fishing the river before as he had one on his 3rd cast of the am. We had a decent day today. Not numbers like i would have liked but all the fish were quality fish of 15"-18".

Water was Pretty Stained, dropping and in the mid 13' range on the gauge and 44 degrees. Saw 3 eagles today, 1 turkey fly across the river and a pile of ducks. It was cooler than predicted today and we got rained on as well.

Fished Sunday pm for 3 hrs with my 9 year old. Water was pretty high swift and a chocolate milkshake from Fridays Rain. Water temps were in mid 40's.

Managed 5 nice size smallies in the 16-17-1/2" range. The bite was just starting to warm up but i had to take Jr to Little league practice.

Left the pole at work (note to self, i should have done this a long time ago) i went out at lunch again for about 25 minutes of fishing. It sure was a beautiful day with temps in the mid 50's. On the first 2 casts i had fish of 18" and 16" on....and got 5 more before i left, all fat healthy 14-17"ers. They were on fire! Should have taken the afternoon off.

Fished with my Son and Rich Hebda...water was stained and 47 degrees. Fish were for the most part still in there wintering areas and not in there typical spring patterns. Most of the fish were scattered, with one spot producing a bunch of fish.

Nice to get out again, we ended up catching a bunch of smallies, 2 big carp and one fall fish. The bass for the most part where in the 14 to 17" range. One came on a Jerk bait the rest on Tubes.

I took the pole with me to work this am. I got out at lunch and walked down to the river for about 15 minutes worth of fishing.

I had a Lucky Craft tied on. I suppose the water temp is in the low 40's and the visibility about 3 foot. On about the 6th cast with a long "pause" in between i felt the weight of my first smallie of the 2009 campaign, a fat chunky 16"er and a huge smile on my face! A few cast later i had my second smallie at 14".

Its been a long time in between fish! After a LONG winter and busy spring thus far keeping me away from the river, I hope to start the 2009 season in the boat this weekend!
