Fished with John Allen and his friend John today on an all day charter.
Bite was slow this am but picked up as the day went on. Soon as it clouded up John Switched over to top water and it was ON!...as he caught a 19-1/4" in short order.

Today was a pretty darn good day as we ended up with 77 smallies with 3 over 19" and a pile in the 17+"range. Water ended at 62 degrees stained with a gauge height of around 10.5

Spent an enjoyable, leisurely 1/2 day with "uncle Charlie" today who came up from MD... Charlie wanted to bring his fly rod with him and he ended up catching a dandy 18" er on it that sure did put up a fight.

THe weather was warm in the mid 80's, with a water temp of 56-59 and stained, gauge height around 11'.

Put a bunch in the boat today 40 total with better overall quality, biggest going 19"...and one walleye, that almost went home for dinner..but he got returned to fight another day.

Had an evening charter with David Spain and his Son Dylan. Very nice evening, warm and no wind. They had a good evening catching 22 smallies between them up to 18".

Saw a variety of wildlife tonight...including turkeys flying across the river, a pile of beavers and my Second River Otter sighting! that was way cool.

Had some interesting entertainment while loading the boat tonight...ask me about comic relief sometime! LOL

Had a 1/2 day charter with Leo Watrin and his Son Grant. They caught 56 today up to 18"s. We missed the majority of the rain today as we didnt start until about 10:30 this am. It turned out to be a good day after all. No wind and cloudy, the river on the rise with a green stain and in the mid to upper 50's.

Grant learned how to fish the JB today!. Funny to see his eyes get as big as saucers when a smallie would rip into his bait and almost yank the pole out of his hand. Funny to watch the progression from absolutely no confidence in the bait at the beginning of the session until the light bulb went on and BOOM! he got the knack of it and look out!

Spent day 2 with Tubey and Hookup battling the wind for a second straight day. Caught 84 today and quite early cause i was BEAT from running the TM all day!

Biggest today was a 19-1/2" that was a pig!! and not spawned yet. Didnt put the scale on her but was easily 4.5 lbs. Caught a couple of 18'ers also. Saw MANY fish on beds today, including a pair doing there thing!..We parked the boat at lunch and watched several tending beds.

Fished with Tubey and Hookup today. Weather was sunny, cold to start and water temps in the mid 50's with a green stain.

Had a good day despite the heavy 20mph+ winds. Finished the day with 64 fish which included a dandy 20 incher! Think she was spawned out though as she was on the skinny side at 3-11oz. Picked up several in the 18" range and a bunch in the 17" class.

Saw my first spawning fish today. Not many but saw several males tending nests today.

Fished for 1/2 day with Tim Fehr. Water was green stained and 54-56 degrees. Cold, windy with rain and we even got sleeted on a couple times.

Had mid to upper 50's numbers wise. Mostly on JB's up to 18.5" with a couple of walleyes mixed in. The consistent 20+ mph wind sure was a pain today.

Had a 1/2 day charter with Mark Wilson today. It was warm, windy at times with stained water and water temps around 54-56 degrees.

Had a decent day today. Fished several spots with one or two fish here or there. The last 2 spots of the day really produced and we ended up with upper 30's # wise and one pretty decent size walleye about 25".

Fishing picked up in the early afternoon...even hit a few on jerkbaits today in the stained water which was nice.

Got out for the first time at lunch this year. Been busy doing cabin and food plot stuff this spring thus far the few times i could have got the boat in.

Fished from the bank at my usual lunchtime haunt. Fished for about 40 minutes and landed 5 fish. The first fish for me of 2010 wasn't a smallie but a walleye about 18" long...a thin male fish. But man was it good to feel that old tell tale "thump" again.

The second fish of 2010 was a quillback!! dont catch many of them. Thought i had a big fall fish on but it was a fat quillback.

Then finally bronze! The first smallie of the 2010 campaign was a chunky 15"er...The next smallie was a beauty at 18" and the last for the short trip was a nice 16er. AHHHHH!!! good to be back!

March 2, 2010, 10:10 AM by Greg Gettin close!

March is finally here and fishing will start as soon as the access ramps are clear of the 15" of snow we received last week!

The river is actually looking pretty good!

If you are thinking about booking trips this spring i would suggest getting them booked as soon as possible before all the prime dates are taken!!
