Fished with Tim Fehr in the am. Tim and I managed 15 fish before lunch today. The water was 48 degrees and Dark stained. The river came up about 6" from the rain on Wednesday. After Lunch Chris Gorsuch and myself went out in the afternoon. Things picked up in the afternoon and we managed another 18 fish. We actually got to get into some jerkbait fish today! We found a small eddie that had clear water from a feeder stream and things really picked up!
I also managed to catch a 12" brook trout on a jerkbait today! The biggest smallie was a fat 16.5"

Fished with Chris Gorsuch and Eric Loher today. Water was in the high 40's in the "land of oz" today. We were able to find some clearer water today after the recent heavy rains and snow melt things have been slow to wake up this year. Although we didn't have a great numbers day, we had a great "quality" fish day. Eric got the biggest at 19-1/4" Chris had 3-18"plus fish. I had a couple of 18"ers and most of the fish we caught were 15" plus. We were even able to get a jerkbait bite going in the afternoon. Tubes grubs and jerkbaits were the ticket today.

April 7, 2007, 11:38 PM by Greg 1st Trip of the Spring!

It's seemed like forevever since the last time I have been on the water! Its been a long and hard winter season in the wilds of NE PA but spring is FINALLY HERE!!

Today i went with my good friend Mark Wilson. Mark and i went to high school together and each early spring we make a point of meeting around easter to fish.

I awoke this am to a hot cup of coffee and looked at the thermometer at a cold 19 degrees! I wondered to myself if we were NUTS today going fishing (well my wife thought we were nuts) . We went for breakfast and started around 10:30 fishing at a nice cold temp of 28 degrees! The ramp was MUDDY and untouched as no one has ventured out this early this far north!

The water was a COLD 39.4 degrees and the wind was blowing Briskly from the northwest at about 20 MPH! FRIGID ON THE RIVER is all i can say!! After the first run up river i thought my face and fingers were going to fall off!!!

It wasnt long before Mark caught the first spring fish of 2007 at about 11:45 am and it was well worth it!!! A FAT North Branch 15" smallie!!! Shortly thereafter, i hooked into the first smallie of the 07 Spring season...a nice 14" ghostly colored fish... the water was dark stained today causing the fish to be almost WHITE in color!

We fished until about 3:30 pm and ended up with 11 fish in the boat.
The biggest was a fat 18"er! We also had a 17.5" and a beautifully marked 16"er. All fish were caught on grubs.

I dont think i have EVER fished in so cold a temperatures as today. With the wind and the off and on snow showers that blew through today!! BBBBBRRRRRRR!!!!

My only regret was that my digital camera's batteries were not
working due to the cold weather and i didnt get any pics!.....and I got the camera new for christmas! Overall, it was a great day on the water with an old friend!

March 4, 2007, 04:35 PM by Greg A Rare January Fishing Report 1/06/07

Chris Gorsuch came up and went fishing on a "rare" January charter.
I say rare because seldom do we get the opportunity to take a boat out in January on the North Branch due to cold weather and ice.

Today was the exception! The weather was a warm 50 degrees with a 20mph northwest wind, the water was a cool 42 degrees. The west side of the river was heavily stained from the heavy rain the night before.

It didn't take us long to find an excellent "wintering hole" and the results proved it. We ended up with 23 smallies in the boat. Chris boated the biggest, a beautifully marked 19 inch pigbeast! We also caught 4 walleyes, the biggest was 23 inches on almost the last cast of the day. Hair jigs and grubs did the trick today.
