What a difference a little water and some cooler temps make! Fished with Chris G this am from 7am to 11:15....the bite was on!We landed 63 smallies and one walleye. Most of the fish were good quality fish from 14-17". Water was heavily stained at 68 degrees and a gauge around 10.5' Fun to have mornings like that...hadn't had one in a while!
August 22, 2010, 09:05 AM by Greg 08/21/10....Hey BOO BOO!
Had 2 charters today. The first was am charter with Rob Hobfer. We where on the water by 6 and fishing quickly thereafter, I was hoping for a decent top water bite. It wasn't a great bite but Rob did manage a few good size smallies on top. Then I had him switch to the good old NBSCT and he through them for most of the day until the clouds came out and a breeze kicked up which triggered a late am top water bite again. He finished with smallie #'s in the upper 20's. The water was stained, 77 degrees with a gauge around 7.9
For the evening trip, Debbie Kemp and her husband Rusty From Texas fished with me. I started them out on the NBSCT and they were quickly into a bunch of smallies.
We talked about Texas and PA and the differences between the two areas. The heat, the wildlife and the fact that debbie hadn't seen a bear yet while she was in Pa.
As the evening went on, i was again hoping we could get a top water bite kicked in. As we went up river, I stopped at a good topwater location and as i TM'd the boat upriver to sneak up on the spot, I looked up to see a Heron Screech and take off...as i looked closer a small bear appeared out of the weeds!!!
We got several pictures and i got pretty close with the boat before he took off up over the bank! That was way cool.
They finished the night with 28 smallies up to 17"! so it was pretty decent day of fishing.

Fished with Tim Fehr this am for 1/2 a day....water is LOW with a gauge in the mid 7 range and a water temp at 78.No top water bite to speak of again which was disappointing . But we did pretty well on numbers today pushing 40 fish. Most of them came on the good old NBSCT! with the biggest at 17.5"
LOTS of people out today after 8am....unfortunately most of them where of the catch and keep angler variety.

Got up and fished the first light bite with Rich Hebda and my son Jordan.Water was in the mid 70's, heavily algea stained with a gauge in the low 8's. Thought we would have a decent topwater bite first thing but that was not the case. Switched over to spinnerbaits after the fog burned off and did better with them.
Quality was better today as Jr caught a nice thick fat, 18"er. We also got several in the 15-16" range.

Had an evening charter with Debbie Kemp. Her husband booked a charter for there anniversary for her. Debbie is from Texas and isn't your ordinary everyday female angler. When she showed up with baitcasters in hand i knew I was going to be in for a great evening.See Debbie is a tourney angler who usually fishes for green bass out of her 21' triton bass boat. Lake fork is her home lake in texas! If you know anything about bass fishing, lake fork is one of the best lakes in the country for largemouth!
Anyway, the water was green stained, 84 degrees and it was hot and humid with a gauge around 7.9. The water is as low as its been in a couple of years now and my usual summertime faster water area doesnt have much water in it now.
We caught a bunch of smaller bass mostly on spinnerbaits and Debbie did manage to catch one near dark that had some decent size to it. It was a very enjoyable evening with a very personable angler! And that girl can plain fish!

Had a 1/2 day am charter with Roger Burton and his son Nathan. We started about 7:00 and were off the water by 11.Water was stained and 78 degrees with a gauge in the mid 8 range. Wehad a decent bite first thing in the fog. But soon as the fog lifted and the sun came out it died off in a hurry.
We found one area that held a bunch of biting fish...unfortunately they were all dinks so we moved on. It was tough going today and we didn/t catch anything of any size today. Sometimes fishing is just that and It only makes the theory of fishing on a full moon is tough more truthful!

Had an enjoyable evening charter with Bob Hobbes Sr and Jr tonight. Water was 71, dark stained with a gauge around 10.We had a good bite this evening finishing with 42 smallies up to 17-3/4' and one nice marble eye. Started out with wind and clouds and then the sun came out and it warmed everyone up. Saw a lot of wildlife this evening including a hen turkey that came down to get a drink and the usual eagle sightings.
Bob Sr made my day after he said he liked my st.croix's so much last year that he went out and bought one! and some war eagle spinnerbaits to boot!

Had an all day charter with Leo Watrin and his son Grant today. Conditions where post cold front. Water temps in the in the upper 50's to low 60's at the end of the day, stained with a gauge height of 12'.Morning started out slow and the wind started howling with gusts around 25-30mph. Had to run the trolling motor on high most of the day to keep the boat positioned. They finished with 59 smallies and one Nice keeper walleye which Leo took home to his wife for dinner. Got some nice quality fish today, with the biggest pushing 19".
My TM batteries where spent at the end of the day, they where ready to die any second. They sure got a work out today!
