Fishing Reports

October 10, 2011, 09:23 AM by Greg 10/8 & 9th

Had two charters this weekend. Water was 55-58 degrees and Stained.

Fished with Leo Watrin and his son Grant. Always a good time with this father and son team. Caught some really great fish. Grant had the biggest of the day at 19-1/4". Unfortunately my camera broke and i couldnt get a picture. Lots of fish in the 15-17" range.

Sunday I fished with Mike Rickels and his son Andrew and his friend Zach. Had another banner day. With 2 fish over 18'+ and a bunch of
15-17" fish. Also caught a couple of walleyes and a hog nose sucker and chub. All in all a good day.

Ah...back to fishing! Softball season is finally over so now i can turn my attention back to the river!

Fished for 4 hrs this am with Rich Hebda...water was algea stained and 72 degrees With a gauge at 8.3. Beautiful am! No wind, cloudy and cool. We had mid 20's number wise with the biggest at 17.5" Even caught 2 rock bass which i havent caught any in while!

Saw a bunch of different wildlife today including, Deer, turkeys, geese, Ducks about 10 different eagles! and another Bear swimming the river!
He was a big one! but to far for pictures!

Picked up 30 fish in just overan hour. Including 3-18" & 2-17"s . Great night!!! Water was Stained in the Mid 70's with a gauge of 9.5.

Had 3 hours this am before i had to leave for a softball tournament in Newburgh NY....tried to get my son out of bed to no avail, so i was by myself.

For the first day of Bass Season the ramp wasnt to bad. Only 6 boats but once i got away from the main pool i had the river entirely to myself which was nice and relaxing. Fish were here and there. No definite pattern i could figure out. I did catch 12 smallies, 1 walleye and a chub.
Biggest smallie was an 1/8" under 20". No matter how i tried i couldnt stretch it! Funny i did catch one smallie that was 18" that had a huge gut and probably was pushing 4lbs. That long fish was only probably 3lbs...long and skinny with a dented belly from the spawn.

Nice am despite the hour long rain storm. Saw 3 deer, a turkey, mink, ducks and 3 bald eagles. Water was 74 degrees with a light stain and 10.2 on the gauge.

Looked at the river forecast and weather for the week. With the impending rain all week and the river forecasted to rise again above 17', I called and re-scheduled the trip for this coming saturday to today.

Glad i did, cause now the river is rising and chocolate milk again this am. George Barkanic and Jeff Hill came up to fish. Water was Green stained and 61 degrees, River on the rise at 12'. Was cloudy with a slight North wind. Can you say it was a slow day with 62 smallies? Seemed that way anyway.

Bite was in spurts today. You would catch one or two hear and there but nothing consistent. Some areas that normally would be loaded with fish held none.

Also had 1 walleye and one pike in the mix. Always a good day fishing with these guys and we had a good time.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! felt really good to have the boat in the water again finally. Had my first trip of the year with John Allen and Bill.
Water was 59 degrees, Stained and high at a little under 14' on the gauge. Bright beautiful blue bird day!

We had a sum what of a slow morning. Fish were widely scattered but once we found them it was on! Ended up catching them on a multitude of baits. Ended up with 79 Smallies with the biggest at 18"...Bill lost a hog that certainly would have pushed 20". Also caught a bunch of 17"ers.

A really great trip for the first time out this year!

Can't remember a spring that has been this bad as far as river conditions (thus far). From late snow to Heavy Spring rains this has been one of those years where its tough on a river fisherman.

Again, Spring Rain has kept the river near flood stage for the better part of a month. Just when it was starting to look good we got another 1 inch of rain bringing the river up into the trees on the bank again.

Can't wait for some sunshine and some warm temperatures!

Is spring ever going to get here? Just when i think it wont be long now we got pounded by 18" of snow!

Looks like one of those springs where we won't be able to get on the water until the 1st of april cause with all this snow and rain comes HIGH water!

Spring trips are booking up fast...so get your dates in!
