Hello! My name is Greg Smith, founder of North Branch Outfitters.My passion for fishing the Susquehanna River in search of trophy smallmouth bass was developed at an early age in the mid 70's. Having grown up within a stones throw of the North Branch, I was fascinated by the river, as well as the fishing secrets it held.
My childhood summer evenings were spent looking for nightcrawlers with a flashlight in my backyard. My day time hours were spent searching for hellgrammites and stone cats under the many rocks that lined the banks of the Susquehanna river in Towanda Pennsylvania where I grew up. These bait-gathering excursions would soon be followed by bike rides along the railroad tracks to my favorite fishing holes in search of those beautiful smallmouth bass that inhabited the river. I can still remember saving my $1 weekly allowance to purchase fishing equipment and the first smallie I ever caught on a lure, a 10 incher caught on a C.P. swing behind the Towanda Court House.
After graduating high school and attending Penn State University, I moved away from the area to pursue a career in Logistics Management. However, I always yearned to move "home" again, where I could be closer to my first loves, fishing and hunting. After several years that opportunity finally presented itself, and in 1990 I returned to the banks of the North Branch, eventually settling in the small town of Tunkhannock in Wyoming County with my wife and family.
Now my attention drew back to the river I grew up on and my quest to pursue the quality smallies that roamed the river. In 2006, I made a decision to pursue guiding as a part-time business. I wanted to share my knowledge of the river and skill as an angler on the beautiful North Branch of the susky in search of Smallmouth Bass.
At North Branch Outfitters, I am dedicated to providing my clients with a memorable "quality" fishing experience. Although I no longer use live bait and I am dedicated to Catch and Release angling, every aspect of your trip will be designed to ensure that you, the client, enjoy your fishing experience. From putting you on fish, to showing you the beautiful river, scenery, wildlife and vistas of the North Branch of the Susquehanna River, my primary goal is to make sure you have a memorable, relaxing, enjoyable charter.
